EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a method of psychotherapy that promotes emotional healing from traumatic life experiences at an accelerated rate.
It is not necessary to re-live the traumatic event during an EMDR session. You will not even have to talk about the event in detail. EMDR combined with mindfulness, allows the client to reach new insights and healing images without suggestions from the therapist because healing is within you.
When fully resolved (usually 3-8 sessions) symptoms of traumatic stress should no longer trouble you. Although you will not forget what happened, thinking about it will not be disturbing. Negative beliefs associated with the trauma will usually change to more positive beliefs and you will be able to live your life more fully.
Using EMDR directly with the triggers of habitual patterns of behavior can offer freedom from automatic responses. Anxiety and panic can be overcome. Old emotional and physical addictions that previously seemed unmanageable can be relaced with new ways of being in the world.
EMDR can also be used to strengthen your goals and create a more positive vision for your life. Focusing on what you want, rather than on what you don't want, can enhance your performance and free-up energy for your full participation in life.
